Q: What is this all about?
A: We didn't want to see live, in-person performances completely disappear during these dark times, as we feel it's a vital way in which people express themselves and connect. So we decided to bring the show to you. We'll schedule a time to come to your place and, at a super safe distance, perform a professional 20 minute storytelling/music show for you outside of your home.
Q: Is this safe for you/me?
A: We are just as cautious and concerned as you are. We will not even come close to entering your structure or living space, nor will we touch anything on site. We'll stay far outside of the recommended social distancing mandate. For our own safety, we'll be going nowhere but from our homes to the car, and then to a safe distance from your door or window. For gas stops, we'll pay at the pump and use disposable rubber gloves. For the record, we are both currently healthy, but would cease all activities immediately if we were to become symptomatic.
Q: How do I book you?
A: Right here! Or you can check out the booking page for even more details. In short, you will book a performance, and give us a window of time on three separate days. We will respond as quickly as possible and confirm an exact time and date for you. On the day of the performance, we'll text when we are on the way, and again when we arrive so that you can be ready to enjoy.
Q: Can I book you using Venmo or Paypal instead?
A: We can accommodate that! Email bardsinyouryard@gmail.com to book in this manner.
Q: Where exactly will you perform at my place?
A: We will talk with you in advance to find the best option. Basically, anywhere that is easily accessible to us, with room to maintain a safe distance close enough for you to see/hear us. Some good choices include: the sidewalk outside of your front door (home or apartment building), underneath a window, porch, or deck, at the edge or your yard, or in the alley. We may have some limitations. For instance, your window won't work if you live on the top floor of a high rise.
Q: Will it start right on time?
A: We might need to be slightly flexible and allow a few minutes for delays, as we'll be driving all over town. However, we will keep you informed via text.
Q: What can I expect?
A: You will get a 20 minute mix of music and stories. You may hear a hilarious personal story, a classic folk or fairy tale, a historical piece, or something weird and fun. You might be treated to a hair metal ballad, original composition, pop song, or old standard.
Q: Is this family friendly?
A: We're performing in public, so we won't say or play anything that would be inappropriate for that space. If you'd like a performance geared towards the younger crowd, let us know. We offer that!
Q: Do you take requests?
A: We can try our best! Depending on the specific story or song, we might have a little difficulty. However, we can certainly tailor the show to what you'd like it in a general way.
Q: Can I sing along?
A: That would bring us great joy.
Q: Will this bother my neighbors?
A; We hope not! We'll perform just loud enough for you to hear well. We'd hope that your neighbors would appreciate a little unexpected positivity, or at the very least have a little patience for 20 minutes while you enjoy yourself.
Q: Twenty-five dollars? Isn't that too much/too little for something like this?
A: Too much - We are both working artists who have had our livelihoods completely wiped out for the unforeseeable future. The little money we make from this project may help out. We understand cash is tight all around right now, so if you are unable to swing it, we totally get that. Too little - We want to make this as accessible for everyone. If you want to tip us, we'll appreciate it and can make sure you are able to do so without passing any cash.
Q: What if I have to change the date/time or cancel?
A: It's difficult for us to make changes to the schedule after a performance is confirmed. Please remember that we are grouping these geographically to maximize time and racing around town. We'll do whatever we can. Cancellations will not receive a refund after your slot has been confirmed.
Q: How do you deal with bad weather?
A: If it's severe, we may have to reschedule. We are equipped for colder temperatures and maybe mild snow or rain.
Q: Can I book a longer performance?
A: We'd be happy to accommodate that, and can book a double or even triple slot for you.
Q: What if I live outside of the city?
A: We don't mind traveling a bit, but will probably have to charge a little more, depending on how far out you are. If we can manage to group some performances out your way, we can keep the cost down. Email us at bardsinyouryard@gmail.com and we'll figure something out.
